Jessy's Top 10 Places to Eat

Though they are two of my favorite things, food and design really have nothing to do with each other. But you have to be well fed in order to produce good creative work. So with that, here are my top ten places to eat…

  1. Mama Bear's Cafe. I list this as #1 because I know I am not the only one in this office who feels this way. We have all had our share of the famous "Old Town Special." For Jake, it's sometimes two or three times a week.
  2. Lamai's Kitchen. This is Thai food that I hold dear to my heart. Lamai is a great cook and a wonderful neighbor. Anyone who can serve over 10 people, while cooking an entire buffet, cashing everyone out, and cleaning is talented in my eyes.
  3. The Soup Spoon. A spot that has lately become a sunday afternoon ritual for my boyfriend and I. You just can't beat the tomato basil soup and a cup of Rudy Baggs coffee on a blustery day.
  4. Pablo's Panaderia. Another Old Town favorite. Flour chicken tacos with lime and cilantro... all I can say is yum! I can't wait until it is nice enough to enjoy them on the patio.
  5. MSU Dairy Store. Oh ice cream, you are my weakness.
  6. Emil's. It is hard to go a Wednesday without at least thinking about 1/2 off wine at Emils. Try the Chianti, but bring a friend (it is so good you will be tempted to down the bottle). The pizza is great too!
  7. Sultan's Restaurant. I love, love, love middle-eastern food and Sultan's is one of the best in the area. The falafel sandwich is my personal favorite.
  8. Michigan Brewing Company. There is nothing better than a smoke free brew pub, walking distance from your house. You could imagine my excitement, when MBC opened up downtown and I no longer had to travel to Webberville for a glass of Sunset Amber Lager and a black bean burger.
  9. The English Inn. Ok, so I have only been once. But loved it! If you are looking for a fancy, yet homestyle feel, the English Inn is it. Not to mention their plate presentation is so beautiful, I was tempted to take a picture.
  10. The Lansing City Market. I am a huge fan of the new city market. A clean atmosphere, fresh products, and friendly people are just a few of the things that make visiting the market special.

So there you are… ten of the yummiest places in Lansing.

Redhead is turning 10! To celebrate, we’ll be sharing top 10 lists of all kinds. Keep visiting us so you can poke fun at our favorite stuff or confirm that you’re as weird as we are.
