So, I'm sitting here sketching artwork for a web site when I have this realization: I have the coolest job, ever. I have to say it out loud, it's that true. I have this realization pretty regularly. During good weeks, when I'm working on lots of new creative I may think this three or four times. There are, of course bad weeks on occasion, but I think my bad work weeks are much better than most other's good work weeks.
I spend my days making handsome things. Be they logos, web sites, brochures, posters, annual reports, magazines, newsletters, or even tchotchkes, they're all fun to make in their own way. I love dreaming up the look of these things. I love finding smart and clever ways to reach a client's goal with something that looks great. I love considering the details of a thing. I love discovering an ingenious way to visually represent information that makes it more powerful than words or graphics alone. But wait, there's more! On top of the pretty stuff, there are naming projects and marketing strategies and brainstorming sessions, oh my. To me, the work feels like brain exercise. I feel good when it's done, like I've solved a problem. And the real cherry on top is that clients have fun working on this stuff too. They love seeing their ideas come to life. It's quite rewarding, really.
Sometimes I can't believe I can call this work (though I spend countless hours perfecting my solutions) and that people pay me to do something that I enjoy so thoroughly. That fabled catbird seat? Today, I'm in it.
