Better left unsaid

We have lots of discussions in these parts about the "you know it when you see it" factor that applies to good design. Well, it applies to a lot of things. And, honestly, we occasionally chuckle when we hear people (or organizations or products) refer to themselves as cool. Yeah, sure. So in the spirit of irony, here you go.

Top five list of qualities that, if you have to say you are—you're not:

  • Cool.
  • Hip.
  • A Maverick.
  • Out-of-the-box.
  • Savvy.

If you have to point out that you're a a hip, savvy, cool, out-of-the-box maverick, you're surely not. These are all labels that only apply when a third party anoints you. And for marketing, that's the real holy grail, isn't it? Getting your audience to look at you and think, "wow, that's ________" without you ever having to spell it out.
